Selecting a camera to purchase before used to be an easier task. There was a limited selection, so decision making most likely would depend on pricing. Nowadays, there are hundreds of models to choose from, and that combined with all of the technical qualities it can be a real pain going shopping for a camera.

There are multiple factors that go into purchasing a camera, such as needs and budget.

Here are 5 important factors to consider when choosing a new camera:

1. Image Quality

   1. By reading through the camera reviews you will be able to find out how the camera performs. With the quality of cameras on our phones now though, there is no point to carrying around a camera if it doesn't take nicer looking images than your phone.

2. Ergonomics that suit your hands

   1. If you cannot go to the store to physically try out the camera, make sure you check to see if there are grips and even look into the dimensions to make sure it will be a comfortable fit.

3. Size that suits your habits

   1. This depends on lifestyle. If you are not one to carry around a bag, then a smaller compact one would be more ideal. Or if you don't mind having a bit more to take with you then a larger one with more equipment would suit that lifestyle. This can also depend on if you will be traveling with it, etc.

4. Availability of lenses that will fit within budget restrictions

   1. Some cameras do come with fixed lenses, but if it does not then this is something that should be considered. Before committing to a camera, look into what future costs may be down the road if you would one day want to purchase another lens.

5. The latest model within budget

   1. Since camera technology is always moving so fast, investing and getting the latest version would be ideal. With budget in mind, even getting the previous version would work, but I wouldn't go back farther than this.
